What are the Google Guidelines?
The Google Guidelines are guidelines established by the search engine provider Google. These guidelines give you an insight into how you can optimize your website, for example, so that it is positioned as high up as possible in the SERPs. These guidelines also define what violations are and what consequences they entail.
The Google Guidelines are divided into a total of 4 areas:
- Guidelines for webmasters: Here you can find all the information about general best practices for presenting your website for Google Search
- General guidelines: These guidelines provide you with information on how your website can be presented optimally in Google
- Guidelines for content: Under this point you will find tips for the visualization and integration of different types of content (images, video, audio. You will also find tips for optimizing the website in responsive design here.
- Quality guidelines: An important factor in avoiding penalties. You will be informed about prohibited search engine optimization techniques and applications.
How do the guidelines help you with search engine optimization?
The guidelines contain important information about what is and is not allowed when optimizing your website. If you follow the guidelines, it will be easier for Googlebot to find your website, index it and rank it. Pages containing so-called webspam will be penalized by Google. This can even go so far that the website can no longer be found in the Google index and therefore can no longer be found by your customers.
The Google guidelines are described in great detail. We have summarized a few important points here to show you how to achieve a good ranking in the SERPs:
What happens if SEOs or webmasters violate the guidelines?
A breach of the guidelines will inevitably always lead to sanctions. Individual pages, directories or domains can be affected by this. As a result, the website and its content drop in the rankings and are therefore no longer as easy for users to find. Such a penalty is usually “only” temporary and can be remedied by removing the webspam. However, you will have to be patient until the next crawl of your website until the page rises in the rankings again. However, if there is serious spam activity on your website according to the guidelines, this can even lead to your domain being excluded from the index. The site is therefore “invisible” on the web.
